Coalition taps new executive director,
approves board officer transitions

The Stop I-3 Coalition is pleased to announce the hiring of Holly Demuth as its executive director, and the election of Lucy Bartlett of Tiger, Georgia, as the new chair of the board of directors.

“Building a duplicate interstate connecting Savannah to Knoxville would be an irresponsible use of taxpayers’ money,” Demuth said. “Stopping a proposed road is a tall challenge, but one that this well-organized, knowledgeable, and skilled coalition has adeptly taken on.

“The Coalition continues to work to protect the integrity of rural communities, drinking water resources, trout streams, and forests by stopping Interstate 3,” she said. “With the continued involvement of concerned groups and individuals, this road will be stopped.”

Demuth, a graduate of Agnes Scott College, most recently served as development director of the Carolina Mountain Land Conservancy in Hendersonville, North Carolina. Before that, she worked as a development associate for the Community Foundation of Henderson County, and as a National Park Service ranger. “For me, one of life’s finest pleasures,” Demuth added, “ is exploring along a babbling mountain stream in the southern Appalachians. The sounds, smells, and visuals are incomparable.”

Bartlett, previously vice-chair of the coalition, succeeds Greg Kidd with the National Parks Conservation Association, Asheville. Ted Doll of Sautee-Nacoochee, Georgia, takes over from Bartlett as vice-chair.

“We are pleased to see Holly come on board, and look forward to what I am sure will be an excellent and strong performance,” said Bartlett. To learn more about the Coalition’s efforts and to offer your time and talents, go to: www.stopI-3.org
